Save image to jpeg, etc

I’m a subscriber. I enjoy the product a lot. But I’m surprised I can’t save an image to a jpeg. I do this often and my workflow is clunky: take a screenshot, open Preview and paste the image, then save it to a jpeg from Preview. It would be so much better if I could just save from Paste. Or, even have the Paste Preview open Apple’s Preview instead.
